Ilias von Feischmecker

Abstract

History

Ilias von Feischmecker1, also known as Oskar von Greudenthal2 after taking the place of his former lover in the noble court, is a Half-Elf/Vampire Warlock who has been travelling the land trying to distract himself from his grief and disappointment.

Originally born a commoner to a neglectful/absent family, he was an introverted bookworm who largely kept to himself. Over time he gravitated from merely reading to also writing, and then found himself with a small reader base who appreciated his poetry/prose. Chiefly among them was one member of the noble court, Oskar von Greudenthal. They became fast friends and spent a great deal of time together before eventually becoming romantically involved.

After a few years together, Ilias decided that he wanted to become a vampire as well so that age can never separate them. However, only a few weeks after becoming undead himself, Ilias proved witness to Oskar being murdered as a result of petty politicking amongst the other lower ranking nobles, something of a property dispute.

This was perhaps the most important moment in Ilias' life. He was forced to re-evaluate everything that had made him who he was. As a pauper who’d always been starved for a benefactor, and as a fledling author who’d always been starved for attention, he had been content living life in his lover’s arms. But now he could do naught but mourn, or stand up on his own.

In the past, perhaps Ilias would’ve given into grief, or allowed himself to be made a victim; but having loved and lost fundamentally changed something within him, and he had had enough. Consumed by tranquil fury, and a single-minded focus he repossessed his former lover’s property and assumed his identity. He armed himself with the deceased’s rapier, armour, and clothes, and confronted those who murdered him in cold blood.

The encounter was short and uneventful as the belligerants involved were shocked to see the man they killed standing in front of them, Ilias being an inexperienced combatant was counting on this element of surprise, and took full advantage of it.

Personality

After inheriting his former lover’s place in the court and self-actualising a bit, Ilias had become something of an ethical hedonist, and often made decisions utilizing the felicific calculus and cost-benefit analyses.

Although still somewhat of a loner by default, over time he became much more outgoing and began to mingle with others for entertainment and to gather information, becoming something of an ambivert.

Throughout his travels Ilias found himself taking advantage of the opportunity to experience things that he could not as a pauper, such as eating expensive or exotic foods (granted, he didn’t really have much need of food anymore), wearing fancy clothes, and seeing beautiful places.

At some point during his travels, Ilias realizes he has a penchant for pranks and practical jokes, as a hobby he enjoys challenging himself to cause commotions with as few casts of prestidigitation possible.

Ilias is easily satisfied–having come from nothing–and doesn’t require a lot to be happy. Consequently, it’s equally hard to make him angry. However, having spent time among the nobility and also having cultivated a powerful sense of self-worth and self-respect in himself, he cannot and will not abide any disrespect towards himself or his travelling companions.

Generally speaking, Ilias’s behaviour can often be seen as goofy, smug, and helpful.

Feeding Habits

Ilias doesn’t particularly dislike his vampiric nature, but he does dislike subjecting others to wanton acts of violence. As a consequence, he hides the fact that he’s a vampire from most people, and only feeds when absolutely necessary– usually every 6th or 7th day. He prefers to feed either passively during combat to avoid the notice of others, or stealthily on unconscious/dispatched adversaries.

Appearance

Ilias is a broad shouldered half-elf about 5'10 of height. He has long greyish blond hair that goes to his waist. He wears a cloak over his scale mail which obscures most of his shape, but one can tell at a glance that he’s armoured. His eyes are green but sometimes can appear to be jaundiced. He often has a smug expression or sneer on his face, but surprisingly often lets a wholesome or caring smile slip through.

  1. His actual name is a reference to Ezlam from the SRW franchise. Originally I thought about having it be his alias, but then realized it would be more interesting if this were his actual name. ↩︎

  2. This name is a reference to one of my favourite characters from LoGH, Oskar von Reuenthal (combined with one of my favourite racial slurs) undoubtedly one of Norio Wakamoto’s better roles. ↩︎
